It would be foolish to wait on this any longer.

We'll attend the reading in the gardens together, and he'll be wearing blue and black, and that will serve well enough for the announcement all are expecting. Over the next several weeks we will make our share of public appearances, attend enough social affairs to sate the worst of their curiosity ... allow the city to become at least passingly familiar with him. I doubt that he will give anyone cause for concern. He has been anxious to take this step -- but not for the people's sake, of course. He wishes the matter set firmly in stone, for his own sake, and I cannot blame him for that.

I imagine we'll be married before the winter is out.

Assuming, of course, that Joseph can end this annoyance from Matthew of Cresyn. I can say with perfect sincerity that I would much rather wed Connor than watch our Queen make such a tragic mistake.
